You may choose to visit Anne Frank's House, the Rijks Museum, Dam Square or the famous flower market on the Singel Canal before your cruise departs at midday and heads north to Hoorn. Whilst taking lunch onboard you will travel through the Dutch countryside arriving mid afternoon in Hoorn. The beauty of this ancient town is difficult to capture in words. Of course, people have tried - even Vondel, "prince of all Dutch poets", dedicated an ode to it. There is but one way to undergo this typical atmosphere of the Zuider Zee town from the Golden Age: by exploring it on foot. The ancient harbour is a particularly suitable place to feel the atmosphere of its grand past. Take a look over the bronze shoulders of the literary character of Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe and join their gaze across the water and experience the former glory of the harbour, filled with proud three-masted clippers. The ships from Hoorn that roamed the seven seas traded with unknown tribes along faraway coasts from Cape of Good Hope to Cape Horn. This evening you will enjoy an included three-course meal onboard the vessel - a great way to end a memorable day. Day 3. This morning we cruise from Hoorn to the traditional Dutch village of Volendam. Volendam is one of the favourite day-trips from Amsterdam. This small town on the Ijsselmeer with wooden houses painted green and white, still retains it's original fishing village atmosphere and you can still see people in traditional dress here. You will have several hours at your leisure before we depart by coach for Zaanse Schans, a living open air museum where you can see first hand, the traditional cheese making process as well as visit an authentic clog makers, or you may choose to wander through this working village and see the windmills that line the polder or visit one of the souvenir shops, where you can purchase some of the local produce and craftwork. We return to Volendam later this afternoon where dinner will be served onboard. Day 4. After breakfast on board this morning the boat sets sail for Rotterdam however you will travel by coach to Keukenhof Gardens for your full day excursion. Here you can admire the exuberantly coloured flowers and delightful coloured landscaped gardens. This spectacular open-air flower exhibition serves as a permanent showcase for the bulb and flower industry, offering a wide range of attractions guaranteed to excite and delight - a treat for gardeners and non-gardeners alike! But Keukenhof offers more than just flowers and throughout the park you'll find exhibitions by Dutch artists, a variety of restaurants and sunny terraces, just perfect for relaxing during the course of the day. A packed lunch will be provided for you today as you will not be on the vessel for your midday meal. You will re-board the vessel in Rotterdam for dinner on board.
