HISTORIC LILLE
Founded just a short while ago in the year 640, Lille has been central to the history of northern Europe for centuries. Surviving wars, revolutions and plagues, the city remains a fascinating place to visit. This history is reflected in the ancient and unspoiled city centre. There are many museums and galleries in the
centre celebrating the art and culture of the region through the centuries as well as some superb shops, ranging from quality designer boutiques to continental departments stores. The cuisine is as diverse as the city’s history and you can choose between restaurants from the four corners of the globe.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
The growth of towns and cities offering Christmas Markets in Europe is extraordinary. Nearly every town and city in Europe now celebrates the festive period by opening market stalls, which offer a huge variety of amazing goods and Christmas finery from across the world. From the huge Cologne markets to the quaint and atmospheric Ardenne markets, there is something magical and captivating
about the festive season at a Christmas market. Whether it is the smell of the gluh wine, waffles and cakes, or the challenge of finding that perfect present, a visit to one of Europe’s Christmas markets is a must.
PROVENCE, COTE D’ AZUR & LANGUEDOC
Just over 6 hours from London are the cosmopolitan cities of Marseilles & Montpellier. From here the magnificent regions of Provence, the Cote d’ Azur & Languedoc are just a short journey. You could choose to base yourself in the film capital of Europe, Cannes or fashionable Nice, or perhaps a 2 centre
holiday taking in more than one region. There are a variety of destinations that offer everything a visitor might ask, from history dating back to pre-Roman times, to stunning scenery, magnificent architecture and simply some of the best food and wine in the world. You might choose a short city based break or a longer tour, in order to take in the wide range of places of interest.
AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam is one of the most visited cities in the world and has something to offer everyone. The list of places of interest is endless, from the magnificent Rijksmuseum, to Anne Frank’s house or enjoy a relaxing cruise around the myriad of canals that
bisect this amazing city. The city has an atmosphere and character all of it’s own!
STRASBOURG
Strasbourg lies at the heart of Europe both geographically and culturally. The city lies at the cross-roads of Europe on the banks of the mighty Rhine and is a UNESCO World Heritage site as well as being home to the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights. First mentioned in 12BC, the city has a rich history which is reflected in it’s eclectic architecture that creates a wonderful atmosphere. You are spoiled for choice with museums and historic sites throughout the city, as well as an international flavour when dining out or you might choose to simply sit at one of the many cafes and bars
to watch the world pass by.
TOURS
In the heart of the wonderful Loire valley lies the historic and beautiful city of Tours. It could be said that Tours is the capital of the wine region and this is reflected in the ambience and atmosphere of the city. With a history dating back to pre-Roman times, Tours is a superb place from where you can explore the Loire and it’s chateaux. Just a stones throw away from the city are the magnificent chateaux of Chenonceau, and Chambord as well as many of the worlds leading vineyards, which are well worth visiting.
REIMS & DIJON
These two cities are just short train journeys from Lille and Paris. Reims is in the heart of Aube en Champagne regionand Dijon lies a little further south in the heart of Burgundy. Both cities are synonymous with wine and champagne and Reims was the coronation city for French kings for many centuries. If you enjoy history, stunning architecture, culture, fine wine and dining, then a visit to either city is a must.
