This lovely town has been a magnet for British and German romantics ever since the early 19th century. The historical monuments, romantic winding alleyways and the rolling hillside vineyards are a delight for all the senses. Koblenz, which lies at the confluence of two world-famous rivers, the Rhine and the Moselle it is also at the intersection of four beautiful upland regions. Two thousand years of historical heritage are documented at the city’s numerous excellent museums. Koblenz’ famous sights attract visitors from all over the world. This heritage is particularly visible in the beautiful Old Town with its romantic little squares, winding streets, noble mansions, medieval burgher houses and beautiful old churches. The Middle Rhine, with it's castles, historic towns and vineyards, graphically illustrates the long history of human involvement with a dramatic and varied natural landscape. It is intimately associated with history and legend and for centuries has exercised a powerful influence on writers, artists and composers. The beauty of the countryside, the presence of so many enchanting old towns, the freedom of the river and the abundance of reasonably priced local wines of good quality have helped to make this one of Germany's most popular regions Burg Eltz The Eltz family was first recorded in 1157 when Rudolph von Eltz was mentioned as witness in a deed of gift of Emperor Fredrick I Barbarossa. Burg Eltz was built in a strategic position along the lower Eltz River, which is a tributary of the Mosel River. The castle was built on top a 70 meter high rock giving it a commanding view of the valley and the River Eltz which flowed around the base of the castle on three sides. The road to the castle through the forest is spectacular and very dramatic and although Burg Eltz has been around for nearly 900 years, it has seen little action in military conflict. Burg Eltz is one of the few Rhenish castles never to have been destroyed. Boppard is located in the Valley of the Loreley as well as on the heights of the nearby Hunsrück Mountains, Boppard has a lot to offer in many respects both to residents and guests. In the course of history, all kinds of people have felt at home here, whether Celts, Romans or Franconians. All of them have left their mark on the 2000 year-old history of the town and at every turn there is witness in stone of their presence. An impressive building is the electoral castle (Kurfürstliche Burg), which Balduin von Trier erected in 1327. The small fortress served as a customs castle on the Rhine, a building which assured its owner of a lucrative living from the tithes and tolls levied upon Rhenish traffic. Of considerable interest is the Romanesque building of St Severus Church on the Market Square. One thing which must not be missed is the Carmelite Church, built in 1300 which, after fire in 1730, was re-constructed in the baroque style. Bad Salzig, where your hotel is located nestles in the gently rising hilly slopes which shoulder the course of the Rhine and is a part of the town of Boppard. It owes its designation "Bad" to the initiative of the East Prussian, Major The odor Hoffmann. It was he who, in 1902 and 1905 respectively ordered two wells to be bored, the "Barbara" and the "Leonora Spring". Cherries flourish here in the summer and in the spring of each year the area around Bad Salzig becomes a veritable sea of blossom right up to the heights above the river - a delight and fascination to the eye. Anton Hammes wine cellars have been owned by the family Hammes for over 150 years and they are more than 300 years old. Here, the grapes are processed and the wine is given the time which it needs to ripen in old oak casks in order to acquire its unmistakable bouquet guided tour of the winery including the manufacturing process and the storage cellars. You can also get a look at the 'treasure chest', where wines from the last century are still stored (sorry, not for sale!). At the end of the tour, you end up in the wine-tasting cellar. An alternative wine venue might be provided depending on availability at the time of booking.
