You will depart from your pick up point for the journey to the coast and Eurotunnel to Calais. We travel along the north coast to the historic city of Antwerp where you will have some time for lunch (not included) and to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the old city centre. We continue the journey into Germany making a comfort stop, before arriving in the beautiful town of Hildesheim where you are based for the next 4 nights. Le Meridien Hotel is a beautiful 4 star hotel located in the central square of the medieval and historic town of Hildesheim. It is a stunningly beautiful old building that has been converted into a superb hotel, which has managed to keep many of it’s old architectural features that add to the atmosphere. The hotel has a superb fitness centre, with sauna, solarium and you could enjoy a massage in the health studio ‘Valentina’. And if this is not enough there is a beautiful indoor swimming pool should you be feeling energetic. The ‘‘gildhaus’ country style restaurant serves excellent food and there is always the relaxing ‘Clubhouse bar’ for a quiet drink. Day 2. After a relaxing breakfast we travel to Hamelin, which is possibly the most famous town in Germany. Whether the tale of the ‘Pied Piper’ is fact or fiction the town certainly embraces the tradition and ceremony that surrounds the Pied Piper of Hamelin and we have arranged a guided tour of the town by the ‘Pied Piper’ himself. Lunch is included at the local riverside restaurant before you take a relaxing cruise on the river Weser. Finally we will visit the famous Hamelin Glassworks (entrance payable locally) before returning to the hotel. Day 3. After breakfast make the short journey to the Goslar. The Imperial city Goslar is an ancient imperial city on the edge of the Harz Mountains and nature park. The Rammelsberg silver mine was in operation for over 1,000 years, now disused but was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1992. Peterstrasse is a street not to be missed with it’s timbered and ‘wonky’ buildings that date back centuries and over two thirds of the old towns buildings have ‘protected’ status because of their age and historic value. You will have a 90 minute guided walking tour of the old town ending in the old market place after which you have some time to explore at your leisure. We continue the day with a trip into the Harz Mountains to Annen Hone where you take a narrow gauge railway journey through the magnificent scenery to the highest peak at Brocken. We will return to the hotel later in the day in time to freshen up before dinner (included) at the Ratshaus Keller, which is opposite the hotel in Hildesheim. Day 4. This morning is free for you to enjoy ancient Hildesheim. We will travel to the Steinhude Meer region where you could choose to take a cruise on the lake or motorboat ride to Wilhelmstien Island (payable locally). Freidrich Wilhelm von Schaumberg-Lippe was a leading military scientist and developed the island into a cadet school in the 18th century, which was later made into a prison and finally a museum specialising in the history of the island. We travel to Hannover, known as the city of gardens arriving at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, a wonderful Baroque garden, where we will spend the evening having dinner at the garden restaurant before watching the International Fireworks Display Day 5. We depart after breakfast & make a brief stop in Essen for lunch (not included) continuing to Bruges for you to have a shop and afternoon tea before the final leg of the journey back to your original departure point.
