Travel to your hotel where you will be based for 3 nights. Day 2. After breakfast we travel to Volendam, which is the most famous place on the IJsselmeer coast. The village is built along t he dyke and in it’s centre there is a small harbour. From time immemorial it has been a fishing village and fish of all kinds, especially eels, are on sale. Just behind the dyke there is another Volendam with narrow streets, fishermen's cottages, an old labyrinth, narrow canals and clogs still outside the doors. At festivals many of the inhabitants still dress in Volendam costume as if time had stood still. We leave Volendam for East Holland and the Open Air Museum in Gelderland. Here you can step into 250 years of Dutch life with typical cottages, gabled houses, a windmill or two, raising bridges, gardens galore, historical workshops. It's most fun to walk around the park, but there's also a tram ride. There are also cheese making, ship building and paper making demonstrations. Day 3. Burgers Zoo is recognised as one of the greatest zoo s in the world. Johan Burgers first developed the zoo in 1913 and this continues to this day. You can see more animals in Burgers than any other zoo and the animals are kept in perfectly recreated lands with climate control to create the perfect habitat for the animals. You can view many lands by raised walkways but don’t stray from the path! Keeping with the animal theme we move on to the largest Dolphin centre in Europe at Harderwijk. There are some wonderful shows and the centre is recognised as one of the worlds leading research centres that helps this endangered species. Tonight we have arranged a special dinner on board the Pannenkoekenboot (pancake boat) where you can eat as much as you like of the sweet and savoury pancakes on offer. Day 4 After breakfast you depart and en-route home you will visit Antwerp where you can spend some time exploring before taking the return crossing back to the UK and on to your original departure point.
