Bardolino is one of Lake Garda’s most popular resorts. The town was originally a small fishing village with a lively market and it has retained it’s atmosphere, charm and traditions throughout the years. There is an attractive lakeside promenade with stunning views down the lake. There is an enchanting town centre, with numerous shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, and an informal nightlife. The town is also now world famous for its delightful 'Bardolino' ruby wine and the rich landscape of olive groves, cypress trees and vineyards. This traditional market town has a relaxed Mediterranean flavour and beautiful avenuess, perfect for strolling and relaxing. The city’s origins date back to 400 B.C when the Gauls settled in this area of the Po Plains, having defeated the Etruscans who were by now in decline. When the city was conquered by the Romans in 222 B.C. and annexed to the Empire, it was given the name Mediolanum. Milan has a varied and rich history as you can see, but the city is now recognised as the style capital of Italy and you will have the opportunity to spend some time in the city exploring, sightseeing and shopping before travelling on to your hotel. Lake Garda has been attracting tourists for many many centuries and it has a strategic significance, being located between Germany and Rome. Of course during the Roman empire there were strongholds throughout the region some of which still remain to this day and there is no shortage of museums in many of the lakeside towns which bear testament to the regions colourful history. But it is the scenery which takes your breath away and you will never cease to be amazed by the beautiful views and mountains that dominate Lake Garda. The lakeside towns, many of which are household names like Riva, Torbole and Malcesine can be visited by boat and you can disembark and explore at your leisure. The origins of Verona are bound to the ancient civilization from Veneto and to the Gaulish and Rhaetian civilizations, but it’s foundation dates back to 49 B.C., during the Roman domination, that went on until the first century A.D. In the fourth century Christianity established itself thanks to St Zeno, bishop of the town. After the Roman domination Verona faced a period of great splendour during the reign of Theodoric (489-526), that preceded the Longobard dominion of King Alboino. Moreover, Verona is famous as the birthplace of important figures, such as Valerius Catullus and Vitruvio and it is also the town of Charlemagne and of his son Pipino. Shakespeare immortalised the city in his play Romeo & Juliet and you can visit the balcony (pictured) to see where one of the worlds most famous speeches was made. Verona is a beautiful and ancient city full of atmosphere, wonderful architecture and a rich history and you will have a guided walking tour of the centre as well as free time to explore on your own. Venice is a city of many surprises and delights for the visitor. There are no cars in this beautiful city, which has been recently saved from sinking into the once marshland, where it was built many centuries ago. The city’s pavements play a major a role in the city as do the canals because these are the only methods of getting around. You will have the day to explore this romantic, art-filled and utterly unique city. Although tourists crowd the city, most of them head straight for the Basilica di San Marco and the Doge’s Palace; a little trip off the beaten track yields huge rewards, as you nip down narrow alleys and find beautiful little churches, street markets and yet another canal before you. The boat crossing to San Marco is payable localy & you could enjoy a ride in one of the many gondola’s, although this is very expensive but also very romantic.
