SAMPLE 5 DAY ITINERARY

The Budapest Christmas Market is one of the highlights of the year in the city. The market is held in Vorosmarty Square, renowned as the most beautiful in the city. There are over 100 stalls, most of which offer unique hand crafted Hungarian produce from glassware, to sausages and everything in-between. There is a stage area where you can watch Hungarian folk dancing, music and stage plays and if you are peckish there is no shortage of thick hot ‘goulash’, pancakes and sweet savouries, not forgetting gluh wine (mulled wine). The highlight of the market is the opening of the Gerbeaud Advent Calendar at 5.00pm each evening. The Gerbeaud building is annually transformed into an ‘advent calendar’, with all the windows depicting a christmas scene and opened each day up to Christmas day.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1. You will depart for Ferihegy airport Budapest from your UK airport where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in the city centre. You have time to freshen up before making your way to the Karpatia restaurant, which is just over the road. This restaurant is one of the best in the city, decorated in turn of the century style and serving quality traditional Hungarian cuisine. You will be entertained by Hungarian Gypsy music and this is a wonderful introduction to your visit to Hungary.

Day 2. After breakfast you will be met by the guide in the hotel and taken on a half day guided tour of the city that will take in the most famous sites and include entrance to Matthias Church and the Fisherman’s Bastion. This afternoon you are free to explore the city at your leisure and enjoy the wonderful Christmas Markets & colourful market hall.

Day 3. Today you have the whole day at your leisure in Budapest to explore to your hearts content.

Day 4 Today there is an optional excursion to the beautiful town of Szentendre. For this optional coach excursion to operate the whole group must pre-book. Szentendre is a fascinating mediterranean style town on the banks of the river Danube and is a short coach drive from the city. You will be taken on a walking tour of the old town that will include entrance into the world famous ‘marzipan museum’, which also has a shop where you might be tempted to purchase some of these beautifully hand crafted sweets. Lunch is included at the fabulous Labirintus Restaurant, where you will have a traditional Hungarian meal followed by a fascinating tour of their extensive wine cellars. This tour will also include the opportunity to sample up to 9 different kinds of Hungarian wine as well as the chance to purchase your favourite afterwards. The cost of this day excursion is £35.00pp - please tick the relevant section on your booking form to reserve your place. You will return to the hotel later in the day in time to freshen up before your final evening, which will be spent on the magnificent River Danube. You will be met by your guide for the evening and transferred to the banks of the river where you will board the river cruiser. From the comfort of the cruiser you will receive a commentary and you will see the city, much of which is floodlit creating a quite spectacular sight. After the cruise you will transfer to thesplendour and luxury of the famous Vanhajo Restaurant. Dinner will be served and you can relax and enjoy your final evening in comfort before returning to the hotel later in the evening.

Day 5. Sadly you will depart Budapest for the return flight back to England with some happy memories and perhaps some souveniers.
