Depart from your chosen departure point and travel to take the short channel crossing to Calais. You will make a comfort stop en-route. We have recomended to our groups a stop in Tournai, which is a beautiful and historic town in Belgium, where you would have tome to explore and have some lunch before conitinuing on to Vianden in the Luxembourg Ardennes. The stunningly beautiful little town of Vianden sits on a spectacular gorge and is overlooked by one of northern europe's most dramatic 'caroglian' castles. On arrival at your family owned and run hotel, which wil be either the Petry or Berg en Dal, you will have time to settle in before dinner, which is included this evening. Day 2. You will depart after breakfast for Germanys oldest city, Trier. En-route you might like to visit the world renowned wine cellars of Bernard Massard where you could have a guided tour and tasting (not included) The centre of Trier is one of the most attractive in Germany and the Christmas markets spread out from the main square. Trier was home to no less than 6 Roman Emperors who ruled over Europe and for many years. There are many ruins, the most spectacular of which is the 'Porta Nigra' or 'black gate' and the city was also the birthplace of Carl Marx. Day 3. A guided tour of Vianden castle is something not to be missed and the castle also houses a very small market and you can realx and spend time in the pretty town for the remainder of the day. Day 4. Clervaux is a pretty town in the heart of the Luxembourg Ardennes. The town houses the worlds "biggest photography exhibition of all time". An American photographer, born in Luxembourg, Edward Steichen, started in 1951 in the middle of the cold war, to prepare his greatest project of his exhibition from ‘man to man’ through the unique language of photography. The exhibition is composed of 37 themes, with impressive collisions from the love of the faith in the human being, to the birth, the labour, the family, education, children, war and peace. After your morn ing visit to Clervaux we will depart for Luxembourg where you can choose to have a guided coach and walking tour of the city before you are free to explore the city and take in the Christmas Markets. Day 5 After breakfast you will depart for the UK stopping en-route for a break and lunch before continuing on to your original departure point.
