PROVISIONAL ITINERARYDay 1 - Departing your selected pick up points this morning we travel north making a stop en-route at a place of interest where the group can also have some lunch (not included). EXAMPLE - the Cumbrian market town of Hawkshead. Hawkshead is an ancient township that has flourished since Norse times and which belonged to Furness Abbey until the 12th Century. Hawkshead remains a tiny village of higgledy-piggledy houses, archways, and squares beloved by William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. You will have a couple of hours at your leisure here before we continue northwards where we can make a quick comfort stop at Gretna Green and the Old Blacksmiths Shop Centre which is one of Scotland’s earliest visitor attractions. Curiosity has attracted travellers to visit Gretna Green since the middle of the 19th Century. The first visitors would peer through the windows trying to catch a glimpse of a run-away couple marrying over the anvil. In the year 1886, the owner, Hugh Mackie decided to open the cottage and workshop to visitors thus creating one of the first visitor attractions in Scotland (small entrance charge locally).
Day 2 - A visit to Edinburgh for a full day excursion where we first visit the Royal Yacht Britannia which is now permanently moored in Edinburgh's historic port of Leith (entrance not included) where you will visit on board this ship, which was once home to the world's most famous family. From here we then continue into the centre of Edinburgh where the rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the Royal Mile, the Castle or just relax and watch the world go by. Dinner today is at your leisure as we will return to the hotel later this evening.
Day 3 - A relaxing 2 hour cruise on Loch Lomond is something not to be missed. You will be welcomed onboard by a traditional piper before you cruise the lake with its mile upon mile of pure dear water, interrupted by a generous sprinkling of verdant islands that appear to float on its silvery surface, fringed with gentle rolling pastures and rugged highland peaks that cradle a network of hidden glens and passes. As a finale to your stay in Scotland there is an optional buffet dinner tonight onboard this cruise before we return to the hotel later tonight. Day 4 - This morning is at your leisure in Glasgow. Why not take the opportunity to visit either the Glasgow Cathedral, Provand's Lordship, Glasgow City Chambers, one of the excellent museums and art galleries with examples of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh or for the less adventurous you may choose to shop 'til you drop in the elegant West End area of the city. We will depart here after lunch and retrace our steps southwards. Our stop on the return journey will be in the historic town of Carlisle where you will have ample time to stretch your legs and purchase some refreshment before continuing your journey to your original departure points arriving home later this evening.
