We then continue, stopping again (for example) at Rheged Discovery Centre, or Wedgewood Pottery where we stop for a late lunch (not included). The last leg of the journey to Blairgowrie should see you arriving at the hotel in good time to freshen up before dinner. Day 2 - This morning is at leisure in Blairgowrie before you travel the short distance to Glamis Castle, which was the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother. It is the place of legends and fairytales and is the family home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne and has been a royal residence since 1372. Not only was it the childhood home of the late Queen Mother and birthplace of Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret it was also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's famous play 'Macbeth'. As you drive down the mile long avenue, flanked in Spring by swathes or yellow and cream daffodils, or by the Autumn colours of the rows of ancient trees, you will not fail to be touched by the magic of Glamis. Glamis Castle is the royal castle that has it all. Day 3 - Today is dedicated to a full day in Edinburgh. The first visit of the day is to the Royal Yacht Britannia which is now permanently moored in Edinburgh's historic port of Leith and you will visit on board this ship, that was once home to the world's most famous family. From here we then continue into the centre of Edinburgh where the afternoon is at your leisure to explore the Royal Mile, the Castle or if the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is on (usually same dates as the Tattoo), you might like to view one of the many performances by varied artists who appear in over 200 venues throughout the city. Dinner is at your leisure today and the group will then meet up again for the 7pm performance of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (a 90 minute show). Tickets are included in this package but we must reserve & pay for these by the beginning of November 2006 as they are sold on a first come first serve basis. Day 4 - A leisurely day as we travel to Crieff home to Scotlands oldest distillery, Glenturret, which has a long and colourful history. From illicit stills and smugglers, through the worldwide boom in Scottish whisky to near dereliction post-prohibition, the site here at Glenturret has survived through the centuries. Nowadays the Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret is the most visited distillery in Scotland, which seems only appropriate for the spiritual home of Scotlands favourite whisky. You can still come and learn about how single malt is is made in the traditional way, but now you can also learn more about where some of the Glenturret single malt ends up - in the blending of Scotlands Best Loved Whisky, the Famous Grouse, and it's new range of blended malts (available in various ages from10 to 30 years old) We have arranged a tour and tasting here before we continue on a tour of the beautiful Perthshire countryside. You will have the opportunity of walking to the stunning waterfalls that inspired Robert Burns' poem; " The Birks O' Aberfeldy" before our visit to what is famously known as 'The Queens View', which is one of the most famous views in all Scotland across Loch Tummell to Schiehallion. Queen Victoria took tea here in 1866, but the viewpoint actually commemerates Queen Isabel, first wife of Robert The Bruce . You will pass Blair Castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl and home of the Atholl Highlanders, which has the last remaining private army in Europe and then it's back to Blairgowrie via Pitlochry where you will have some free time before arriving at the hotel later this afternoon. Day 5 - Unfortunately it is time to head home. Our first stop today is to the World Famous 'Old Blacksmiths Shop' in Gretna Green where you will be given ample time for a coffee break and the opportunity of visiting the attraction before continuing our journey south. A further stop will be made at a location of your choice for you to purchase lunch, this will be suggested by us so that it suits your group.
